In-depth: This is a very early drawing of Link battling the Midoro Palace boss from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. It obviously looks like it's been through hell, but I've somehow held on to it over the years, wrinkles, stains and all. Color is a mixture of crayon and rapidly drying magic marker.
The basis of this drawing is an image from the instruction manual of the NES game. This was my first ever Zelda game. I didn't get to play the first Zelda until later on so this one holds a special place in my heart. After reading about it tirelessly in Nintendo Power and a ton of begging my mom ordered it for me from her Fingerhut catalog. Oh, the joy of getting that gold game cartridge in the mail. A gold cartridge that would end up turning mostly black once wear and tear from excessive use had rubbed and scraped a majority of the gold color off. But the hours upon hours of my childhood spent making my way through each palace and overworld are some of my fondest memories. I still go back and play through this game at least once a year and still have a ball. I always hear people talk about how excessively difficult the game is, but I've honestly been through it so many times that it's basically a walk in the park for me.
